Feb. 28 marked World Spay Day and both the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC), a private non-profit organization, and Animal Care Division (ACD), a separate government run agency, participated jointly in this year’s event.
Both facilities provided free spaying or neutering to feral or free-roaming cats. A total of 120 felines were sterilized preventing the births of hundreds of kittens over the coming months.
ACD runs a program called SNIP. This is a voucher-based program that provides free or low-cost sterilization services for feral/free roaming and OWNED dogs and cats. This is only available to Broward County residents. To request a SNIP voucher email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Feral or free roaming cats sterilized through the SNIP Program will be ear tipped. This simply means a small portion of the feline’s left ear is surgically snipped off. This visually identifies the cat as being sterilized so it won’t reproduce. It is part of TNR – Trap, Neuter and Return.
The Humane Society of Broward County is a private, non-profit organization supported by donations from people and companies who want to help us help the animals.
