Positioned to kickoff Pride celebrations on the West Coast, WeHo Pride returns for its second year with a star-studded lineup. 

Tickets are now on sale for the Outloud Music Festival, June 2-4, part of a month-long celebration of the LGBT community in West Hollywood, Calif. The three-day outdoors music festival features headliners Grace Jones and Carly Rae Jepsen along with some 50 other — predominantly queer — artists.

“We like to say Pride starts here,” said Jeff Consoletti, whose company, JJ|LA, produces the festival. “It’s one of the first Pride events in California and on the West Coast and one of the biggest Pride events that happen nationally.” 

Pride events have taken place in West Hollywood even before the city’s incorporation in 1984 and for good reason. It is estimated over 40% of West Hollywood’s population (35,757 in 2020) identifies as LGBT and three of the five city council members are gay.

“What we are creating in West Hollywood is a little bit of an experience and something for everyone,” Consoletti said.

Community programming begins on Harvey Milk Day, May 22, and runs throughout June. For WeHo Pride Weekend, the city closes Santa Monica Blvd. to make way for over 100 vendors, tens of thousands of festival-goers, the annual Dyke March and Sunday parade. 

Jones, whose career spans from Jamaican-influenced beats to iconic Paris fashion houses to the big screen, is scheduled to appear on June 3. 

“We’ve had the pleasure of working with Grace Jones before,” said Consoletti. “We produced her show at New York World Pride in 2019 and I’ve been eager to find the right opportunity for her on the West Coast and we started those conversations many years ago.

“Sometimes when you are working with those top tier legendary artists, it takes a minute to find the right opportunity, but when the stars can align, some great things can happen.”
