Fort Lauderdale is about to set sail with Pride! The second annual FLoatarama will feature more than 40 boats ranging from 10 to 65 feet along with the New River.
This year’s events will center on the Flotilla on Saturday, June 12, with decorated boats. The boats will head down the New River in Fort Lauderdale, ending in Sunrise Bay. Tickets will also be available to participate in the Flotilla on a donated double-decker Water Taxi.
“With people starting to get out more and feel comfortable, our two-day event has the perfect timing as the kickoff event for the Fort Lauderdale Pride Season,” Organizer Scott Schramm told SFGN. “Thousands of supporters will line the river and cheer from parks, and balconies as 40 decorated boats will cruise past with music and crews in true pride fashion.”
One day after the Flotilla will be the Sailor's T-Dance event at The Sanctuary Church featuring DJ Matt Consola of SwishCraft, America's largest LGBTQAI+ record label. “We hope hundreds will attend the 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. outdoor T-Dance with multiple bars, great music, and catching up with friends once again,” said Schramm.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis will serve as Grand Marshal of the Flotilla. Tickets for the water taxi are $25 and a cash bar will be serving up cocktails along with a DJ as the flotilla cruises past spectators.
Flotilla has grown from a very small grassroots group of friends last year to a weekend of fun with the collaboration of so many volunteers, Pride Fort Lauderdale and generous benefactors, and sponsors. The fundraiser will support the Pride Fort Lauderdale GED educational fund.
