Sexual Assault Investigation Launched Over Russian Gay Man’s Youtube Q&A with Kids

Maksim Pankratov answered kids’ questions about his life as a gay Russian man for a YouTube video on “Real Talk.” But a few months after the video was published, conservative lawmakers saw it, and a sexual assault investigation was launched.

Pankratov and the production team went into hiding after the investigation was launched, according to CBS News. Police opened the investigation to determine whether the video violated the “gay propaganda ban” which prohibits information about homosexuality to be distributed to minors. Soon after, they launched a criminal investigation for sexual assault of minors.

"While doing the interview, I had no idea it could lead to something like this," Pankratov told CBS News. "I just wanted to show people that I was a normal human being like everybody else."

No one has been charged in the investigation yet.
