After Rugby player Israel Folau’s contract was terminated for anti-gay posts on social media, Rugby Australia is trying to strengthen its ties to the LGBT community.
They’re creating a committee in alliance with four rugby clubs that are already inclusive of the LGBT community, according to 7 News Australia. Rugby Australia wants to educate people about homophobia and include more gay rugby players.
"We want rugby to be a game that all Australians can enjoy regardless of their age, race, background, religion, gender or sexual orientation," said RA chief executive, Raelene Castle, according to 7 News.
The alliance will include four Rugby clubs — Sydney Convicts, Melbourne Chargers, Brisbane Hustlers and Perth Rams — and the U.K. based International Gay Rugby.
