During a match between Brazilian rival soccer teams, Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro, Mineiro fans chanted homophobic slurs, and as a result, the team was fined $15,000.

The fans chanted “Cruzeiro fans, be careful, Bolsonaro will kill the queers,” referring to proudly homophobic President Jair Bolsonaro, according toPinkNews. Mineiro, which plays in Minas Gerais, Brazil, tweeted that the team “deeply regrets the homophobic manifestations of the fans in the Mineiro game this Sunday.” 

“We reiterate our repudiation of any gestures of prejudice or incitement to violence,” the team said, according to PinkNews. “The biggest crowd in Minas Gerais is made up of people from all social classes, races and genres, without any kind of discrimination. This is not part of our glorious history!”
