Update: Wilton Manors Votes Down Special Election to Fill Mayor’s Vacancy

According to the Wilton Manors City Charter a special election must be held for the City Commission or Mayor’s seat in the case of a vacancy.

The former mayor, Justin Flippen, tragically died last week from a brain aneurysm.

According to a spokesperson for the City, “We will provide any details on special election after the celebration of life.”

The City Charter states a special election must be held if there is more than six months left in the unexpired term of an elected official. The election then must be held within 60 to 90 days, and the commission must appoint an interim mayor to serve until the special election.

The winner will serve until November.
