Two well-known travel companies have teamed up to create one of the largest land-based LGBT vacation programs.
Olivia Travel, a cruise, riverboat and adventure vacations for LGBT people, and R Family Vacations, which provides a wide array of LGBT travel vacations, are offering a joint weeklong trip at the Hard Rock in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2016.
Both Olivia, which has an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars on Facebook, and R Family, which has an average of 4.5, are excited to cater to their new audience which includes young children and adults.
“Many years ago, we produced two family vacations, but that’s not what we’re known for,” said Judy Dlugacz, president of Olivia Co. “That said, our clientele is evolving, and one of the key changes is that the women are looking for opportunities to travel with their family, both immediate and extended.”
According to a press release, over 30 percent of Olivia Travel guests are now raising families and interested in traveling with grandchildren so they wanted to make a trip that everyone regardless of age would enjoy.
“This trip is open to anyone that is LGBT friendly: moms, dads and their extended family and friends,” Dlugacz said.
The trip is scheduled to take place July 9 to 16, 2016, and travel packages begin at $1,499 per adult and $399 per child which includes an eight-day and seven-night stay, meals in six restaurants, beverages and activities. A full children’s program will be available as well.
The news has garnered mixed reviews on Facebook with a few people commenting that the trip seemed pricey for children while others are already making plans to purchase tickets.
Gregg Kaminsky, with R Family Vacations, said that by joining forces, R Family has been able to offer the biggest land-based program they’ve ever done with over 1,000 guests.
He said he’s excited to have an LGBT-friendly trip with fun activities for children.
“What’s unique is that it’s a fully chartered experience for kids with gay parents,” he said. “This is an opportunity for them to meet hundreds of families just like theirs.”
Because of the success they’ve had with planning this trip, Dlugacz said she looks forward to Olivia and R Family collaborating again.
“It’s rare that two amazing companies come together to make the best choices for our community,” she said. “We share the same love for our guests and the same desire to create the best vacation for our LGBT families.”
