Playwright Matthew Lopez will be honored with the Equality Award at the 2020 Human Rights Campaign Greater New York Gala.
Lopez’s play, The Inheritance, is now running to critical acclaim on Broadway. It examines gay life through three generations and is inspired by the novel Howard’s End by E.M. Forster.
“For telling this story so powerfully, and for his contributions to LGBT community, it is a true honor for HRC to present Matthew Lopez with the Equality Award,” said HRC President Alphonso David.
Lopez, 40, was born and raised in the northwest Florida town of Panama City.
The HRC Greater New York Gala is Feb. 1.
