A woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Oakland Park Thursday night and the Broward Sheriff’s Office is looking to the public to help identify the driver.

According to a release from law enforcement, Nancy Vazquez, 59, was walking diagonally across North Andrew Avenue when a driver, driving a Honda Accord EX, hit her in the far left lane. The driver was traveling northbound and did not stop after the collision.

BSO was contacted at 11 p.m. about the accident at the 3800 block of North Andrews Avenue; they were joined by the Oakland Park Fire Department to respond to the scene. Vazquez was taken to Broward Health Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m.

Someone who heard the accident occur but did not see it told BSO detectives that a black, four-door sedan was driving northbound from the site. At the scene, detectives found a fog lamp cover and another remnant of the car and identified it as a 2013-2015 black four-door Honda Accord EX.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Det. Sherry Slagle-Grant at 954-321-4843. If you’d like to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
