Most of the loans given to Wilton Manors businesses under the Paycheck Protection Program have been forgiven.
The Gazette, using a search tool provided by ProPublica, an independent investigative journalism website, found that of the 40 largest federal loans issued to businesses using a Wilton Manors address, 32 were forgiven.
A program launched in 2020 during the Trump administration, PPP loans were part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The $793 billion program was implemented by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
A total of 1,430 jobs were reported among the top 40 loans with $8.8 million flowing into the City of Wilton Manors.
The status of some of the city’s PPP loans has yet to be disclosed. Topping that list is Cubas Enterprise, LLC, a personal services company that was approved for a $694,721 loan through New Jersey-based Cross River Bank on May 11, 2020. Florida’s Division of Corporation lists Cubas Enterprise as an inactive limited liability company.
