A driver was killed in a fiery accident Wednesday morning after losing control of his car.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has withheld the name of the driver, who died around 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Oakland Park Boulevard and Dixie Highway.

According to BSO, a man driving a 2016 Hyundai Genesis sedan was driving west on Oakland Park Boulevard at an “excessively high rate of speed.” When he drove over the train tracks, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wooden utility pole, then ricocheted onto a concrete pole.

Because of the high speed, the car wrapped around the pole and burst into flames. BSO says that “bystanders were unable to remove the driver before the vehicle caught fire.”

The agency’s homicide team is investigating the incident but believes that speed was the cause of the deadly accident.
