Broward Sheriff's detectives arrested Wednesday a man suspected of robbing a taxi driver at knifepoint.

Aaron Williams, 29, who was described as being dressed in women's clothing, is charged with grand theft, robbery with a weapon, and criminal mischief, according to Broward jail records.

"You're a crazy lady," said cabbie Bonanfant Aurelien, 42, as he dodged the waving blade coming at him from the back seat.

"Yeah, I sure am," the smiling passenger agreed.

Aurelien, 42, had picked up a fare at 7:16 a.m. on Dec. 21 in his yellow cab at the Oakland Park Flea Market.

The passenger pulled out a knife almost immediately and declared, "I need money. If you don't give me money, I'm going to start cutting things," and the passenger is seen on surveillance video stabbing the car seats, credit card machine and the camera.

The driver ran out of the car just as the robber attempted to stab him. Then, the suspect ran off with the driver's backpack containing personal items and $40 in cash, investigators said.

Williams was arrested within 24 hours of the release of the surveillance video.

At a first-appearance court hearing on Thursday, Williams was ordered held on $51,100 bond.
