Colin Mochrie, a star of the improvisation comedy show “Whose Line is it Anyway,” took to Twitter this Sunday revealing he and his wife, Deb McGrath, have a transgender daughter.
“My 90-yr-old mother-in-law and 87-yr-old mother love and acceptance of our trans daughter warms me,” Mochrie tweeted on Jan 15. “Wonder why some who are younger can’t.”
“The negative is that my mom refers to the community as BLT,” Mochrie continued in a second tweet. “It’s a learning curve.”
This is the first time Mochrie or his wife has ever spoken publicly about their daughter, although the couple have performed at a LGBT youth camp benefit in May.
Mochrie and McGrath performed their “One Couple Show” at a Kiwanis Community Theater on May 6 of last year to benefit the Welcome Friend Association’ Rainbow Camp, a two-week program that supports LGBT youth as well as their families.
During their performance the couple talked about their daugher Luke, who is currently transitioning into a woman.
According to Soo Today, the couple’s routine included jokes about removing pronouns from their vocabulary, and said they honestly wanted Luke to switch her name to Leia. Their performance also stressed the importance of understanding, acceptance and tolerance throughout.
