She’s a walking, talking pride flag.
Next month Hulu premieres Marvel’s “Runaways,” a television show about six teenagers who set out to stop their villainous parents and their evil organization. Among the teens is one alien lesbian Karolina Dean, whose powers involve controlling solar energy into a prismatic aura.
The show will be based on a series of comics, which leaves fans wondering if the characters will be true to their original depictions. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet if Dean will be as out-and-proud on the silver screen as she was in the comics — though released character descriptions have been making teases towards her television persona.
“Karolina Dean, model-perfect exterior with a lot going on behind her professionally whitened smile, is burdened by the lofty expectations and responsibilities put upon her by her parents. Underneath her veneer of privilege and perfection, Karolina is experiencing a newfound eagerness to explore her identity and pursue her own desires.”
Despite fan concerns that TV-Dean will depart comic-Dean, showrunners assured New York Comic Con guests in a panel that they would stay true to source material, according to comicbook.com. They also said fans of Dean “will be satisfied” and it very possible her sexuality will be addressed early on in the show.
The series premieres on Hulu Nov. 21. Here’s the trailer below.
