Crunchyroll, an anime streaming service akin to Netflix, is releasing its first original anime series — and it’ll be created by a transgender man.

The coming-of-age series, “High Guardian Spice,” will be lead by the creative force of Raye Rodriguez, who will be leading an all-female writing room according to Gay Star News.

Set to release in 2019, Crunchyroll’s press release expresses the show’s synopsis:

“In High Guardian Spice, the lives of four fierce girls, Rosemary, Sae, Thyme and Parsley, converge at High Guardian Academy, the one place where they can stumble towards adulthood while becoming the heroes they’ve always admired,” it reads. “As they master the ways of battle and sorcery, our foursome form allegiances and comical kinships, uncover legacies and betrayals, and discover their true identities while preparing to protect the world from an ominous threat.”

The series will be created by Ellation Animation. Before working on this series, Rodriguez was a storyboard artist for Sprite Animation Studios and a character designer for Amazon’s animated series “Danger & Eggs.”
