He reported on injustice, but now it’s his time to fight back.
The CW is releasing a series based around a gay superhero this fall on their digital outlet CW Seed. “Freedom Fighters: The Ray” features a superhero Raymond ‘Ray’ Terrill who gains light-based powers, taking on the alias The Ray.
He fights back in an alternate universe where Germany won World War II. Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl are on the Nazi side in current-day United States, now filled with a white supremacist rule.
The Ray discovered government scientists working on a weapon of mass destruction using light.
“But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a ‘genetic light bomb,’” according to The CW. “The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.”
The first trailer revealed the Freedom Fighters, led by The Ray, protecting refugees attempting to escape Oklahoma. They fight against the three hero-turned-villains, as well as nazi soldiers and robots.
Last year, CW President Mark Pedowitz said that The Ray will eventually crossover into the live-action series Flash-Arrow universe. “Without question,” he said. “That is the way we are intending to build these things out.”
“Freedom Fighters: The Ray” will air this year. Watch the trailer below.
