Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz used an appearance on The View last week to highlight the Trump administration’s commitment to gay Americans.
Gaetz went on the daytime talk show for a political discussion with co-hosts Joy Behar, Whoppi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Meghan McCain. The Republican lawmaker from the Florida panhandle defended President Trump’s promotion of German Ambassador Richard Grenell to acting director of National Intelligence.
“Fifty years ago, a gay man or woman would not be able to serve in our intelligence community,” Gaetz said. “It is a good thing in this country that we do not ban gay people from being able to patriotically serve in the intelligence community.”
Hostin then replied, “Just transgender people.”
Gaetz then countered, “We shouldn’t be banning anybody based on who they are and who they love. That’s not the kind of Republican I am, and that’s not the kind of Republican the President is.”
