Modern Family is not shy of featuring gay characters on their show. Now it appears one of the main stars will come out as bisexual.

The popular ABC series was one of the first television programs to feature an openly gay couple, Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet), as two of their main characters. They’ve also had an abundance of recurring LGBT characters on their show, including Ronaldo (Christian Barillas) and Longines (Kevin Daniels).

However, Modern Family star Sarah Hyland wants fans to not count her out, letting the public know this week that her character Haley Dunphy is bisexual.

After a fan sent the actress a message on Twitter, inquiring about her character’s sexuality, Hyland did not hold back.

“I don’t know what the writers would say. But I confirm,” she tweeted on Wednesday.

Although, Hyland hasn’t dated women on the show, it could be coming in the near future. Not only will this be deemed a historical moment for the show, with having their first bi character, but it’ll also be one of the few bisexual roles seen on a primetime comedy.

This is not Hyland's first time down this rodeo. She also starred in a same-sex kissing scene in the movie “Date and Switch.”

Modern Family has been at the forefront  in making sure their program is representative of the various LGBT storylines that exist within today’s society. Both Ferguson’s and Stonestreet’s characters have had their marriage and role as adoptive parents shown. The show also made headlines in September 2016 when they featured 8-year-old transgender actor Jackson Millarker, in an episode that highlighted bullying.
