Superfans get ready — the Southeast’s largest fan convention is coming to the Tampa Bay Convention Center and bringing a roster of celebrity guests and fan-favorite programming.
MegaCon has shows in both Orlando and Tampa Bay, and more than 30,000 fans are expected to attend this year’s Tampa Bay event.
MegaCon has made strides to include LGBT fans, and last year the event in Orlando honored Pulse victims with a ‘Love is Love’ art auction. The auction featured a comic anthology that brought over 300 comic book creators together to create LGBT stories within a comic book compendium.
“The ‘Love is Love’ event began when the creator behind the book, Marc Andreyko, approached me and said he would very much like to auction off art from the book,” said event organizer Constance Katsafanas, who is a neurologist. “MegaCon being at Orlando would make it the perfect venue to bring this art live.”
This year, MegaCon Orlando featured Nafessa Williams, who plays the openly lesbian superhero Thunder in the CW show ‘Black Lightning.’
At this year’s Tampa Bay event, fans will be able to see celebrity guests including Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Christian Serratos from The Walking Dead, Sean Pertwee and David Mazouz from Gotham and many more.
“Every year we’re delighted to deliver the ultimate fan experience and star power people wait year round for,” Andrew Moyes said. Moyes is the Vice President of FAN EXPO, the parent company to MegaCon. “This year with MEGACON Tampa Bay, we’re bringing the hottest names to the lineup alongside exciting programming for people of all ages.”
Programming highlights include a Harry Potter Escape Room, Back to the Future DeLorean time machine, All-Star voice actor live script reading, a series of Star Wars themed events and much more.
MegaCon Tampa Bay will take place at the Tampa Convention Center on September 21-23. Tickets are available at megacontampabay.com/tickets.
