After a short summer break, the gay softball league is starting to gear up to conclude its 24th year as the fall season looms.

The South Florida Amateur Athletic Association is planning on two Recruiting Days to give new or former players an opportunity to be evaluated and placed on a local team.

Last spring, the SFAAA boasted 28 teams and more than 400 players. All who register will be placed on a team, male or female, and no matter if you are a beginner or a two-decade veteran.

The first Recruiting Day will be held at Fort Lauderdale's Mills Pond Park, our home field, on Sunday, Aug. 19. Registration opens at 9 a.m., with the ratings session starting at 10 a.m.

A second Recruitment Day is scheduled for six days later on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Mickel Park in Wilton Manors. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with ratings starting at 9:30 a.m.

Both locales are off Powerline Road, just south of Oakland Park Blvd.

Opening Day is on Sunday, Sept. 16. The 14-game fall season competes on Sundays, rotating between morning and afternoon starts. All game days end at a local sponsor bar for the afterparty.

The fall season concludes with the 24th annual Hurricane Showdown tournament over Thanksgiving weekend.
