Matthew Mitcham, one of only two male athletes competing at the London Olympics to be openly gay, is among the top divers in the world.
In 2008, Mitcham won gold in the 10 meter platform diving competition, receiving the highest single-dive score in the event’s history.
Now the 24-year-old Australian will attempt to repeat that feat and defend his title as the top diver in the 10 meter category on Aug. 10 and 11. And he’s made a surprising promise if he wins.
We’ll see if he keeps it. Surely many will now be rooting for him, and not necessarily diving fans.
It turns out he’s also an aspiring (or frustrated) musician . Here’s Mitcham covering Beyoncé in the Olympic Village.
