On Wednesday and Sunday evenings in Holiday Park, you’ll likely notice a group of runners and walkers.

They probably look like friends. Especially because they do a lot more than stay in shape as a group – they bond.

They’re the Fort Lauderdale Front Runners — an organization dedicated to promoting healthy activities for the local LGBT community.

“It is a great way to meet new people, some of which have become good friends,” said Front Runners President Jeff Jackson.

“I think that is echoed by most of our members. Since I travel weekly for work, I enjoy the fact that I can join up with other Front Runner groups in most major cities around the country and even as far away as Dublin and Sydney and always be welcomed.”

Front Runners currently has scheduled run/walks on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. in Holiday Park. On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, the group meets in the parking lot of Alibi in Wilton Manors at 7:30 a.m. All of the activities are followed by a meal at a local restaurant.

“Many of our members participate together in 5K, 10K and marathon races around the state. We also participate together for local charity walks such as the AIDS Walk and Walk for the Animals,” Jackson said.

Front Runners also has monthly social outings at various places in the community and many of its members get together informally on other days to run together.
