Sports broadcaster and former running back for the New England Patriots Craig James is not happy that a number of NFL teams, including Super Bowl XLIX champions, have signed a brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to make same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. According to Right Wing Watch, the athlete spoke with Tony Perkins, president of the anti-gay Family Research Council, on his "Washington Watch" radio show Friday and claimed that all this LGBT support was the work of the Devil himself.

On the program, James was asked what he thinks about the Patriot and other sports franchises and companies, including Apple, Microsoft and Facebook, that signed the brief.

James said he has a problem with it and that the support the Patriots, the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants are showing for same-sex marriage could cause an "implosion" in the locker room.

"A locker room is a cohesive deal. A locker room is a place where everybody has different belief systems but you just get along," he said. "In my opinion, I look forward to seeing now, if management tells you and the coaching staff tells you that you better not say anything about the other side, you talk about implosion in the locker room. I know the believers I was with, my teammates -- and there were a lot of believers in that locker room -- we wouldn't have been quiet for a moment, we would have spoken up."

He added that he believes Satan is at work in promoting inclusiveness in the sports world.

"I have to say that ... the thought of me filing something in the Supreme Court on behalf of players, I had pause. I'll run through a wall with you guys [but] ... if I were a current player in that locker room and my livelihood depended on me being quiet or losing it because of my belief system, I worry, I wonder. So, that's Satan working on us," James told Perkins.

Perkins then wondered if there would be a clash between LGBT rights and religious liberty and said: "There's no avoiding this conflict, it's coming, as we redefine marriage and with it everything else in society."

"It's not so much about the marriage altar, this redefinition of marriage, it's about altering all of society," he added.

James backed Perkins and said he has been studying the book of Genesis and said that he found that the story of Adam and Eve proves that if you support same-sex marriage then you "have a problem with God."

James was hired as a college football analyst for Fox Sports in 2013 but after only one appearance, the network cut ties with the former football player before he signed a contract. It was reported that Fox Sports was unhappy with the hiring of James and that he had not been properly vetted for the position. Reports claimed that Fox Sports was upset at anti-gay marriage statements James made during his run for Senate.

James fired back at Fox and Liberty Institute filed a suit on James' behalf against Fox, claiming he was fired for his religious beliefs.
