Craig Lowe, Gainesville Commissioner is reporting that the contentious issue of transgender rights in public restrooms won't go away in Gainesville, Fla. Or maybe we should say, Gaysville.

New transphobic posters related to an upcoming mayoral race have emerged recently on the city's streets, bringing the issue front and center for the third time in two years.

Fliers have circulated criticizing mayoral candidate and current City Commissioner Craig Lowe for his support of a 2008 ordinance extending rights to transgendered people.

Meg Whitman, California GOP Candidate

Meg Whitman, the eBay billionaire who wants to be California's next GOP governor, has some confusing things to say about LGBT rights.

She is against gay marriage, because the word “marriage,” for her, based on her religion, means one-man-one-woman. She is in favor of “equal” civil unions for gays and lesbians, though, and she also thinks those of us who got legally married in 2008 should be allowed to stay that way.

Which is it, Meg? Are you for marriage or against it? Are you being purely practical, knowing that trying to forcibly divorce 18,000 couples whose marriages have been not only recognized for two years now, but also upheld by the California Supreme Court, would unleash more uproar than you’re willing to stomach? Or is your generosity about this weird, unique class of couples some sort of weird attempt at religious charity, given that you’re apparently unable to understand the idea that marriage is not, in legal or legislative terms, a religious issue?

Mass Gay Walk Out in Netherlands

Hundreds of Dutch activists have walked out of a Mass in protest at a Roman Catholic policy of denying communion to practising homosexuals.

On this occasion, the church, in 's-Hertogenbosch, had already decided not to serve communion, so the protesters left, shouting and singing.

The dispute began earlier this month when a priest in a nearby town refused communion to an openly gay man.

Daniel Radcliffe for The Trevor Project

Daniel Radcliffe is explaining why he has just filmed a public service announcement for The Trevor Project, the leading organization focusing on suicide prevention efforts among gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth.

Because his parents were both actors, "I grew up knowing a lot of gay men and it was never something that I even thought twice about -- that some men were gay and some weren't," the "Harry Potter" megastar said Friday. "And then I went to school and (for) the first time ... I came across homophobia. ... I had never encountered it before. It shocked me.

Godmothers Rescue a Fairy

A few weeks ago I asked for donations of furniture, housewares, and other sundries for myself, and my roommate, our Office Manager Matt. While Matt has relocated back to Atlanta I still remain! Since I have to furnish the apartment from top to bottom I need a foundation before I embark on that great gay pastime: decorating!

Brent Douglass Kuenning

The Worldwide Mr.Gay Pageant was held last month in Oslo, Norway

The winner of the event was Charl van den Berg of South Africa, but SFGN got up close and personal with the United States entrant, Brent Douglas Kuenning, 40, of Nebraska.

Kuenning reflected on his present situation, “Similar to many gay individuals, I was raised in a modest, remote community, sheltered from the colorful complexities that abounded in the big cities.”

He continues, “I had never met a gay person nor had my family ever been exposed to anyone different from themselves, until me. In Nebraska, you go about your very routine life, which was fine because all I ever wanted was what everyone close to me had, someone to marry.”
