Military Readiness Enhancement Act

Today, the State Assembly Judiciary Committee officially endorsed a resolution calling for the repeal of the discriminatory federal policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Sponsored by Equality California (EQCA) and introduced by Senator Christine Kehoe (D-San Diego), the resolution calls on the United States Congress to pass and President Barack Obama to immediately sign the Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2009, which would end the unfair policy and allow gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans to serve openly in the armed forces.

Glee Season 2 Casting

Fox has given an early second-season renewal to breakout freshman dramedy "Glee."

The show also is launching a nationwide casting search to fill new roles for season two. The auditions will start in February and will be open to amateurs and professionals between the ages of 16-26.

"Anybody and everybody now has a chance to be on a show about talented underdogs," co-creator/exec producer Ryan Murphy said. "No matter who you are -- a Broadway talent or a struggling singing waiter with a dream in the Midwest -- you now have an opportunity to make that dream come true by posting your talent video and showing us what you can do."

National Vaccination Week 2010

Governor Charlie Crist today encouraged Floridians to get vaccinated for both the seasonal and H1N1 Swine Flu during National Influenza Vaccination Week, taking place January 10 – 16, 2010. Governor Crist and State Surgeon General Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros highlighted the importance of influenza vaccination by launching a statewide campaign, “Spread the Word, Not the Flu.”

“By being responsible with your own health, you are helping keep your friends, family and community healthy,” said Governor Crist. “I encourage all Floridians to be vigilant throughout the year and use the simple, common-sense precautions that help reduce the spread of the seasonal and H1N1 flu.”

Gays Threat to Creation According to Pope

Pope Benedict on Tuesday linked the Church's opposition to gay marriage to concern about the environment, suggesting that laws undermining "the differences between the sexes" were threats to creation.

The pope made his comments in an address to diplomats in his yearly assessment of world events. The main theme of the address was the environment and the protection of creation.

"To carry our reflection further, we must remember that the problem of the environment is complex; one might compare it to a multifaceted prism," he said.

Proposition 8 Trial Day 2

Brown v. Board of Education, meet Perry v. Schwarzenegger. The legal showdown has begun in San Francisco, where two same-sex couples have challenged Proposition 8, a voter-approved law that outlawed gay marriage in the state of California in 2008, saying it violates the U.S. Constitution. Advocates on both sides of the battle believe it could be history in the making.
