In this week's paper, on page 5, SFGN reported the news that Rep. Jared Polis, became the first openly gay member of Congress to become a father. He received warm wishes from around the country and in the LGBT media  after he and his partner announced the arrival of their newborn son. But not everywhere.

Leave it to the National Organization for Marriage to damper the party, seeing no no cause for celebration in gay parenting.

“We have no clue whether it was a planned motherless family or whether he and his partner stepped in to give a motherless child a family — since he will not say," NOM staffers penned in a Monday blog post.

In a tweet to underscore the point, the group wrote, “Openly gay #CO Rep. @JaredPolis announces with pride that his child has no mother.”

One tweeter shot back at the group, replying, ”Do you ever take a step back and look at the things you say? All of you must be miserable inside. Sad. Get help, please.”

Meanwhile Polis and his partner, Marlon Reis, are moving on, and Caspian Julius, who weighed in at 8 lbs, 12 oz., is doing fine. Said Rep. Polis, "All we are looking for is nice thoughts for Caspian, humankind, the planet, and the universe!"
