Pride of the Americas Canceled Amid Coronavirus Panic

 Organizers of the first ever Pride of the Americas announced Wednesday they’re canceling the April event and reschedule it for sometime during the fall. “While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, community, volunteers and staff very seriously,” reads a prepared statement. 

adSFGNCaronaHomepageinstoryAddThe weeklong festival was to take place April 21-26 and feature a fashion show, concerts, parties, conferences, a beach festival, and parade down A1A. The Pride of the Americas is a collaboration between Pride Fort Lauderdale and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.

 Pride Fort Lauderdale decided to forgo their annual event this year so they focus their efforts on making the first ever Pride of the Americas a success.

They hoped the event would attract more than 350,000 people. “It will also take a small army of volunteers to pull this off, but we’re very excited and, most importantly, our community is excited,” Miik Martorell, president of Pride Fort Lauderdale, previously told SFGN. 

According to the statement those people who had purchased tickets to the fashion show will be able to request a refund or keep their tickets for the to be announced rescheduled show. More details will come Monday.
