A self-professed physician is the subject of this week’s White House Watch by SFGN. Dr. Ben Carson, who claims to be a neurosurgeon, angered members of the LGBT community when he stated on CNN that being gay is a choice.
In an interview with journalist Chris Cuomo, Carson used prison as a reasoning that someone can turn “gay.” People can enter prison straight and exit gay, said Carson. When asked if he thought homosexuality was a choice, Carson said “Absolutely.”
Carson, who has a home in West Palm Beach has formed an exploratory committee, presumably for a U.S. Presidential campaign. It is also presumed he will campaign as a member of the Republican Party.
In a YouTube video on his exploratory committee website, Carson says if he runs for President it will be with only one goal in mind: “To heal and strengthen this great nation.”
Carson, who was the Director of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Division at Johns Hopkins Hospital, is clearly an opportunist, who arrived on the political scene at the National Prayer Breakfast when he used his podium time to mentally joust with U.S. President Barack Obama over public policy. Carson is an acknowledged Christian who states he grew up in poverty in Detroit, Michigan, raised by a single mother who was illiterate and a father who was a bigamist.
At his famed National Prayer Breakfast address, Carson bemoaned the placement of athletics and entertainment over academics in America’s educational system.
“What will maintain our position in the world?,” Carson asked. “The ability to shoot a 25-foot jump shot, or the ability to solve a quadratic equation?”
