The House failed to pass an energy and water spending bill on Thursday following an added amendment that would ban federal contractors who discriminate against LGBT workers.
The LGBT amendment was added Wednesday night, and on Thursday the bill failed 112-305.
"House GOP leaders FAIL to pass energy/water spending bill after most of GOP members BAIL over LGBT amendment," Deirdre Walsh, CNN senior congressionall producer, said on Twitter following the bill's failure.
Only six Democrats voted for it to pass, whereas 130 Republicans voted against it.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY) said in a statement: “I’m very disappointed that this bill could not clear the House today, but I remain dedicated to working this bill and all other Appropriations bills through regular order – through the Committee, through the Congress, and to the President's desk. Today's result will not stop our process, but is merely a temporary pause."
