It’s a phenomenon that recurs across the country and around the globe through- out the year: thousands of gay men and women flock to huge, highly-produced events showcasing the talents of big-name DJs, bellowing divas, fabulous drag queens, and, of course, hot, shirtless men. They converge for a weekend of fabulousness.
The biggest parties in Fort Lauderdale’s LGBT community take place this Memo- rial Day Weekend, as Gary Santis presents “White Fort Lauderdale Weekend,” his annual huge weekend of events.
This year’s events take place at Fort Lauderdale’s new jewel,The Manor, 2345 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors, featuring the spectacular decor of Visual Excess which will evoke a white wonderland. In past years,White Fort Lauderdale has been held at Revolution nightclub, later joining forces with the White Wear Party at Voodoo Lounge. The two venues hosted over 4,000 guests for their combined event.
For 2010,White Fort Lauderdale’s 3 days of pre-parties begin on Thursday, May 27, with Pandora Events throwing a soiree for Women Who Love Women. On Friday, May 28, the traditional fashion show takes place. Exhibiting what to wear for the main event, the White Angels fashion show is proud to have as its host the world’s first Super Model, Janice Dickinson. Fashions from Bot- toms & Tops and Zoo Two will be show- cased during this no-cover event .
The theme for Saturday,May 29, is White Knights, a no-cover event with music by the legendary icon Manny Lehman, and featuring performances by Erika Andrews and Erika Norell.
The weekend culminates on Sunday, May 30, with remix genius DJ Chris Cox heading things up with a White-T-Dance beginning at 4 p.m. Celebrity DJ Tony Moran opens the main event at 9 p.m., filled with amazing layers of entertainment and featuring a performance by Billboard chart topper Amuka.
As in years past, count on hundreds of shirtless, body-fabulous hunks to fill the main dance floor, chiseled physiques gyrating while the DJs pump out hot mixes. This year there are three dance floors, one of them hosted by the Noche Latina promoters: the salsa music will flow through the room and hot Latinos may, as usual, be even too sexy for themselves.
The A-List crowd will be found in massive plush decorated VIP tents and rooms complete with private bartenders and wait staff.
That promoter Gary Santis is obsessed with symmetry is obvious in everything from the square pecs of his dancers to the faux-stone columns and gigantic paired blow-up sets which adorn his events.
Santis’ respect for and treatment of the talent he pulls in is evident in the video screens playing throughout the night, paying tribute to the DJs and performers who make the dream a reality. It adds up to a thrilling and visually-arresting spectacle, with each pre-party leading up to Sunday’s Main Event. Revelers can feel free leave it all on the dance floor Sunday night, with plenty of recuperation time on Monday.
