February 14 elicits two reactions: warm fuzzy feelings and eye rolls.

A local duo is reinventing cupid’s day with the Black Anti-Valentine’s Ball, for both lovers and haters of the holiday. The party is set for Feb. 14 at Chase Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale.

“It’s the anti-love event,” said Evans Kevill, club co-manager.

Kevill is teaming up with his business partner, Dino Decesare, to produce a night filled with raucous fun, with lingerie and sex toy giveaways, a kissing booth, bachelor and bachelorette auctions, and two drag shows at midnight and 2 a.m. The event will be hosted by local queen, Daisy Deadpetals.

Even with all the “boom city crazy” that the two have planned for the night, Kevill said the most important takeaway is that the money from the event is going to three great causes.

“It’s not a gay event, it’s not a straight event, it’s an event to raise money,” he said.

The organizers have all been touched in one way or another by cancer and HIV/AIDS — Kevill himself is a cancer survivor — so they chose three nonprofits that help both adults and children impacted by the diseases. Funds will go to the Miami Children’s Hospital, Charlotte’s Dreams, and the Pride Center’s HIV programming.

Charlotte’s Dreams is a nonprofit that helps women who have lost their breasts to cancer by fitting them with a silicone prosthesis and proper fitting bras.

Kevill and Decesare have hosted other fundraisers before, including a party on Halloween, and should this Black Anti-Valentine’s Ball go well, they’re hoping it could become an annual tradition.
