For those who don’t know, Suzanne Westenhoefer is a lesbian comedian. She has been performing as an out lesbian since the early 1990s. She is the first open lesbian to be on Comedy Central, Evening at the Improv., Caroline’s Comedy Hour, to have her own HBO special and to be on David Letterman. On Thursday and Friday last week, The Manor brought her to Wilton Manors. My reaction: Suzanne is a very bright, charismatic, and very funny WOMAN.
She certainly strikes at the heart of experiences that many of us have faced, from family challenges, to friends, to relationship issues. Suzanne made the audience remember why they call us “GAY” women. If there is any criticism of the experience, it would be that the gay MEN missed a wonderful chance to laugh with us (except for the few Manor bartenders and waiters serving the crowd when they weren’t rolling on the floor).
Watching their reactions, it’s clear that Suzanne Westenhoefer strikes a hilarious chord of truth for our whole community. If you ever get the chance, don’t miss her my sisters AND brothers!!!
