Nightlife: Volunteer for a Cause

The big fall and winter events are just around the corner and organizers of the Winter Party festival are seeking a few good volunteers to plan and assist with the event, Feb. 29 – March 5, 2012.

If you are interested in getting involved with the festival, which benefits the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force as well as a number of local community organizations, an informational reception will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 in the upstairs bar at Score, 727 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights of the upcoming week in South Florida:

Wednesday, Aug. 10

During the hot summer months, it’s natural to develop a mighty thirst. Tonight, SideLines Sports Bar, 2031 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors, is prepared to quench your thirst with an all-you-can-drink special beginning at 9 p.m. For just $5 for domestic draft, $20 for well drinks and $20 for call drinks, you’re guaranteed to have a great time.

Thursday, Aug. 11

We love the sultry sounds of singer Jennifer McClain and she’s performing live tonight at Smarty Pants, that friendly little neighborhood bar tucked away in the Time Square Plaza, 2400 E. Oakland Park Blvd., across the street from Target. McClain will be singing two shows at 9 p.m. and midnight.

Friday, Aug. 12

Fans of Sordid Lives, the hilarious movie and television series about a “colorful” Texas family, can relive the antics at The Manor tonight with a performance by creator Del Shores in “Sordid Confessions,” with special guest Jason Dottley, the writer’s real-life partner and star (“Ty”) of the Logo prequel. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are available at The Manor is located at 2345 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors.

Saturday, Aug. 13

Serious dancers head to Miami’s Discotekka on Saturdays where the party lasts well into the wee hours of the morning. Located downtown at 950 NE 2nd Ave., Discotekka features house and hip-hop rooms and performances by local favorites T.P. Lords, Vegas Dion and more.

Not a dancing machine? Chill out at Matty’s On the Drive, 2426 Wilton Drive. Beginning at 9 p.m., Saturdays are literally “da bomb” with $6 Jager and cherry bombs. Matty’s is one of the friendliest bars on the strip, so despite all the “bombs,” you’re more likely to be making love than war by the end of the evening.

Sunday, Aug. 14

Fort Lauderdale’s only poolside tea dance can be found at The Depot cabana bar and grill, 2935 N. Federal Highway. There are plenty of drink specials and you can order snacks, too. The fun begins at 2 p.m. and runs until 6 p.m. Hang around for karaoke at 7 p.m.

In Miami, cool off by the pool of the Lords South Beach hotel this afternoon at the Cabana Boy pool party beginning at 4 p.m. D.J. Juan E. will be spinning poolside and there will be lots of complimentary jello shots and punch bowl specials all evening long. You’ll find the action at 1120 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach.

Monday, Aug. 15

You’re always going to find hot dancers at Johnny’s Miami and Fort Lauderdale locations. In Miami, you get even more—Drag On Mondays—beginning tonight with performances by T.P. Lords and Daisy D. Drag queens and transgender people drink free while everybody else enjoys $3 drinks all night long. Johnny’s Miami is located at 62 NE 14th St.
