Nightlife: Get Involved this Winter

The older we get, the quicker the days seem to pass. Thanksgiving and the White Party are just around the corner and Winter Party Festival isn’t far behind! In fact, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force will be hosting a volunteer outreach reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dapur Kitchen, 1620 N. Federal Hwy. in Fort Lauderdale. The festival, which runs Feb. 2 to March 5, requires hundred of volunteers to coordinate all the dance events, cultural programs and socials, in addition to marketing and soliciting sponsorships. Halloween will be here in less than two weeks and the action is starting to pick up again at South Florida’s bars and clubs as the holiday approaches. Here’s a look at some of the highlights of the upcoming week:

Wednesday, Oct. 19


It’s Gwen Stefani’s birthday and the Alibi is celebrating. Catch Diva on the main stage at 9:45 p.m. and enjoy birthday cupcakes and drink specials all night long. The Alibi is located in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors.

Thursday, Oct. 20

Get an early start to the weekend in Miami Beach at Bar 721, 721 Lincoln Ln. This cool lounge serves up $5 cocktails on 4Play Thursdays and hunky DJ Maximus 3000 is in the booth spinning rock, pop and sexed up house all night long.

Friday, Oct. 21

This weekend, Johnny’s is celebrating the birthdays of three of the area’s hottest DJs, Surreal, TPROMix and Mr. Sittuation. We know you like great music and at Johnny’s you get hot bodies, too, with some of the hottest dancers performing nightly. In Miami, you’ll find the action at 62 NE 14th St. and in Fort Lauderdale, at 1116 W. Broward Blvd.

We love Mova even more! The trendy off-Lincoln Road martini bar is always a fun place to party, but on Fridays it’s better with Edison Farrow’s Hype. DJ Bryan Zero is in the booth and the unforgettable Pusilla is your hostess. Sip on $6 Finlandia and $8 Stoli drinks all night long as you groove the night away. Mova is at 1625 Michigan Ave.

Saturday, Oct. 22

The place for all things Latin is The Manor. The weekly Noche Latina party celebrates una Noche en el Tropicana beginning at 10 p.m. with performances by Viva Mirage and Eduardo Nuñez, Miss and Mr. Noche Latina 2011, along with popular band Tropical Dreams in the Windsor Lounge. Meanwhile, in the Epic Nightclub, DJ Michal Tank and gang pay tribute to Havana B.C. (Before Castro) with performances by Gina D’Angelo as Celia Cruz and Erika Norell as Gloria Estefan. The Manor Complex is located at 2345 Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors.

Dudes is going dark tonight with a 2(x)ist underwear party. Located at 3270 NE 33rd St. in Fort Lauderdale, this beach bar will offer underwear giveaways and lots of drink specials all night long.

Sunday, Oct. 23

Scandals Saloon, 3073 NE 6th Ave. in Wilton Manors, hosts its fourth annual Country Fair this weekend. The fair begins on Saturday and continues today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Don’t miss the bake-offs, dunk tank, pie eating contest and all sorts of other down home fun and games. You won’t find this kind of fun anywhere else in South Florida, that’s for sure.

After the fair, catch a game. You can’t get more All-American than football and the place for sports is SideLines, 2031 Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors. South Florida’s only sports bar is offering up specially-priced beer buckets to accompany the NFL games on their hi-def flat screens.
