Nightlife for October 6, 2010

Another Reason to Party

Let’s face it, Columbus Day isn’t exactly one of the key holidays on the calendar and to top it all off, it doesn’t always fall on a Monday, either. But in 2010, we lucked out and many of us—especially our Italian-American friends—will be celebrating a long weekend. For those of us who aren’t Italian-American, the weekend is also Fort Lauderdale Leather Pride weekend culminating in the Mr. Ramrod contest on Sunday, Oct. 10.  And of course, in South Florida, most of us rarely need to come up with an occasion to hit the bars and clubs anyway.

Here’s a look at the week’s events:

Thursday, Oct. 7

Kick off the holiday weekend a little early by rolling back the clock—no, it’s not daylight savings time—just That ‘70s Party at The Manor. Dig that leisure suit out of the closet and head down to Wilton Manors. Styx’s Chuck Panozzo will be performing live and legendary Studio 54 DJ Robbie Leslie will be in the booth. Admission is $20 and proceeds benefit six HIV/AIDS charities. The manor is located at 2345 Wilton Dr.

Friday, Oct. 8

South Beach promoter Edison Farrow is one busy man and on Fridays, he presents “Hype” at Bar 721, 721 Lincoln Ln. DJ Smeejay provides the beat. Arrive early and enjoy free vodka cocktails between 10 and 11 p.m. Oh, and don’t forget to mark your calendars because Farrow is launching a new party on Oct. 17 at Liquid that is certain to change dynamics of SoBe on Sundays. We’ll have more details next week.

Sunday, Oct. 10

This afternoon, stop by Scandals for the third annual Bubba’s Country Fair. For those of us who grew up in America’s heartland, the fair is just like a slice of home. Visit the booths of local merchants and community organizations, sign up for the pie eating contest or just enjoy a cold drink with friends. You find the old fashioned fun at 3073 NE 6th Ave.

Monday, Oct. 11

If you’re one of the lucky guys who get Columbus Day off, recuperate from the long weekend poolside at The Depot Cabana Bar & Grill at its brand new location, 2935 N. Federal Hwy. The heat and humidity have pretty much subsided so it will be a beautiful day of fun in the sun. Order some food from the Brothel Boys, Scott and Gary, and don’t forget to slather on some sunscreen, too.

Tuesday, Oct. 12

And, if you’re one of the lucky guys who did get Monday off, take the edge off of that first day back at work by stopping by The Stable, 205 E. Oakland Park Blvd. in Oakland Park. Tuesday is underwear night and after a quick glance at some of the bartenders, the tedium of work will be the last thing on your mind.
