Nightlife for the Week of April 6, 2011

Ride ‘em Cowboy!

Dig out your boots and jeans because the rodeo is coming to town. This weekend, April 8-10, marks the sixth anniversary of the Florida Gay Rodeo Association’s Sunshine Stampede, attracting hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls to compete in traditional events at Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie. But when the ropin’ and ridin’ are over, contestants and fans alike will be headin’ into the big city—Wilton Manors, that is—for plenty of country western fun.

Scandals Saloon, 3073 Northeast 6th Ave., is serving as the VIP Ranch for the weekend, with happy hour pricing all weekend and free buffets on Friday and Saturday. Only a limited number of $25 tickets will be sold, so this is your opportunity to skip the crowds and enjoy the specials for rodeo fans. You just might even hook up with a real cowboy because contestants get free admission all weekend long. Visit for more information and passes.

In any case, Big and Rich definitely got this one right: “Save a horse, ride a cowboy!” Yee-hah!

We would also be remiss if we didn’t also mention that across town, New Moon, South Florida’s favorite Lesbian bar, is hosting a cowgirls mixer on Friday evening. We’re sure that’s one party not to be missed this weekend, ladies.

If rodeo isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other options this week. Here are a few of the highlights:

Thursday, April 7

South Beach promoter Edison Farrow always has a party going on and, tonight, his long running “The Simple Life Thursdays” makes a big move from Buck 15 Lounge on Lincoln Lane to Lux, 1439 Washington Ave. The party gets bigger and better. Look for performances from some of South Beach’s favorite entertainers.

Friday, April 8

Boom, the popular local nightclub in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors, celebrates Anthem Fridays tonight with DJ Shane Woten. Between 9 p.m. and midnight, “drink & drown” for only $10. Drinks are just $3 all night long and tonight, Serena Norell Stone makes her debut on stage.

Saturday, April 9

Saturdays are always big at The Manor Complex. Tonight, take in the music of The Nikki Kidd Band starting at 9 p.m in the restaurant. Later, head into the nightclub for music by DJ Oren Nizri and a special performance by recording artist Tony Cruz. The Manor is located at 2345 Wilton Drive. There is no cover.

Sunday, April 10

The hotties in Miami will be heading to the amateur strip contest tonight at Twist, 1057 Washington Ave. in South Beach. Pussila is your host and DJ Paulie will be in the booth. Shake your booty and you could take home cash and prizes. It’s time to strut your stuff!

Monday, April 11

Mona’s is one of the friendliest neighborhood bars in South Florida. Located at 502 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale, it draws a nice cross section of customers. Take the edge off of Monday tonight with free pool. The best part? Happy hour prices extend all night long.

Tuesday, April 12

Do you enjoy live music? The Depot Cabana Bar & Grill offers live music every Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Artists include Heather Craig, Shannon Battle, A Girl Named Chuck and Signal 2. Well drinks and domestic beers are just $2 from 8 p.m. to midnight, too. The Depot is located at 2935 Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.
