Nightlife for January 26, 2011

If you could invite any four people from history to a dinner party, who would you invite? A lot of you out there might get all academic and suggest Jesus or Shakespeare or Abraham Lincoln. I think I would go for the divas—definitely Judy Garland and, since nobody said they had to be dead, follow up with Barbra Streisand, Joan Rivers and Cher. And, just for the record, Cher and Joan have had so much “work” done, they might as well be dead, because, one way or another, all the original parts are gone! Just kidding…..

Well, it’s probably never gonna happen, but South Florida audiences are going to experience the next best thing this weekend when The Manor presents “A Night at the Birdcage” with four of the most amazing celebrity impersonators, Joe Posa (Joan Rivers), Steven Brinberg (Barbra Streisand), Tommy Femia (Judy Garland) and Thirsty Burlington (Cher). But these performers are more than just impersonators, they actually sing, and believe me, you won’t be able to tell the difference from the originals!

The ladies take the stage at The Manor, 2345 Wilton Dr., on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30. Tickets are $25 general admission and $40 for VIP seating at The Manor.

In addition to An Evening at the Birdcage, there are several opportunities to catch live performances at local bars and clubs this week:

Wednesday, Jan. 26

Bill’s Filling Station welcomes the cast of Showtime Theatre in Boca Raton to the stage tonight at 8:30 p.m. with selections from the Off-Broadway hit, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. At 10:15 p.m., the second show will feature the cast performing a variety of musical numbers that are guaranteed to have you clapping and snapping along.

Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29

The Lords South Beach is the hot new gay hotel in Miami Beach and on Friday and Saturday nights, the hotel’s restaurant, Cha Cha Rooster, hosts a cabaret show and dinner. This week, Kimona, the enigmatic chanteuse known for her “vocal acrobatics”, returns again for another mesmerizing engagement. Show times are 8:30 and 10 p.m. You’ll find the action at 1120 Collins Ave.

Sunday, Jan. 30

South Florida favorite Cashetta presents three shows in the Manchester Room at Georgie’s Alibi. If you haven’t seen Cashetta, she’s a multitalented performer who sings and does magic. She’s also pretty darned funny, so don’t miss one of the shows at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. The Alibi is located in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors.
