Remember the big hair, padded shoulders and parachute pants of the ‘80s? We’ve worked hard to repress those shocking memories of our youth -- to no avail -- and the Gusman Center in Miami isn’t helping. This summer, the center brings back the Flickin’ Summer Movies series to showcase the films that have become classics of that disastrous decade.

On Thursday, July 28, “Sixteen Candles,” directed by the late John Hughes and starring Molly Ringwald, will be screened in the downtown landmark. Afterwards, stick around for a dance party on the stage with music by DJ Mr. Pauer.

If a little “liquid courage” is in order to confront the ghosts of your own awkward teenage past, happy hour begins at 6 p.m. Tickets for the movie and dance party are $10 at GusmanCenter.org.

Here are some of the highlights of the week ahead in South Florida:

Thursday, July 28

Looking for a little low-key action tonight? The Naked Grape Wine Bar extends happy hour from 4 p.m. to close on Thursdays with select wines half off. Enjoy the Euro-lounge atmosphere and sample artisan cheeses as you sip that fine glass of chardonnay (or merlot or cabernet). Naked Grape is located at 2039 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors.

Friday, July 29

On Fridays, the angels of South Beach can be found in Heaven at Bar 721, 721 N. Lincoln Lane. DJ Bryan Zero spins Top 40, dance and house and Adora takes the stage from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. with drag and comedy. Best of all, Bar 721 features an open vodka bar from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

If the good boys are in heaven, chances are you’ll find the bad ones in Fort Lauderdale at 11 Nightclub @ Johnny’s, 1116 W. Broward Blvd., for Fierce Fridays. DJs Tpromix and Sittuation headline the city’s biggest hip-hop night and you’ve got all those sexy Johnny’s dancers next door.

Saturday, July 30

Boardwalk always has some of the hottest dancers in South Florida, but that doesn’t stop owner Victor Zepka from bringing in plenty of guest stars to spice up the action. This weekend, Falcon Studios star Landon Conrad will be performing two shows on Friday and Saturday.

Serious dancers head to Discotekka, 950 NE 2nd Ave. in Miami, on Saturdays. The doors open at 11 p.m. and you can enjoy the music of DJs Jarell, Carlos G. and Miik well into the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday, July 31

After a relaxing day on the beach, head over to SoBe’s only gay beach bar, The Palace, 1200 Ocean Drive. Sip on a fruity frozen cocktail, watch the beautiful people pass by and enjoy the bar’s legendary drag performers. Now, that’s the way to spend the weekend in South Florida!

Sunday is a big night in South Florida with tea dances and dance parties galore. In Fort Lauderdale, Voo Doo Lounge’s Life’s a Drag party, hosted by Daisy Deadpetals, is a popular downtown destination with DJ Rob Sky and performances by some of the region’s most popular drag queens.

Monday, Aug. 1

Pompano Bill, our famous local paparazzi, is a fixture on the South Florida scene and tonight, his fans and foes alike will gather at Boardwalk, 1721 N. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, tonight to roast him.  We wouldn’t miss this event for the world because everyone has a story about Pompano Bill.
