On February 20th at 6:00PM Wilton Manors will host a benefit to support earthquake victims in Haiti. Local performer Rayda Melendez will both host and sing at the event. Her brother, Freddy “The Karaoke Guy” Torres, will also co-host.

Locally, the talented siblings have performed at previous events with the Fraternal Order of Eagles. With local talent and experience by their side, it promises to be a wonderful evening.

“When the earthquake hit Haiti I felt the pain. I had to do something more than just donate a couple of dollars,” said Melendez. “I have been in the entertainment industry for quite some time. I thought it would be a great idea to put together a benefit utilizing local talent to raise money for the Haitian Relief Fund.”

This being Wilton Manors, not to mention Southern Florida, what a better way to raise money than a party?

Melendez approached The Mix on the Drive and co-owner Sharon Pickard enthusiastically supported the concept.

According to Melendez, Sharon and The Mix wondered why there have been no local events to raise funds for the devastated country yet.

The show’s cast will include piano player Ivan Borak, “Side Show” host Jennifer McClain, female impersonator and diva Kennedy Davenport of the Voodoo Lounge. Peter Orlando, Christine Starke and Michael Elder have also signed on to donate their time. Others names will surely join the lineup to support Haiti.

The doors will open at The Mix at 6:00 pm. At 6:30 pm raffle tickets will be sold.

Freddy Torres’ services as a DJ or Karaoke host will be awarded to the person with the lucky number. He promises to work the raffle winner’s Saturday night event.

So on Friday, February 20, make sure you clear your calendar to support Haiti.
