Anticipation Mounting for Winter Party Festival

As our neighbors to the north continue to dig out from the series of blizzards not so affectionately known as “snowpocalypse” and “snowmageddon,” excitement is growing in Miami for the week-long party that doesn’t involve snow and ice: Winter Party Festival.

The festival, which was conceived as a one-time event in 1994, has grown into one of the most popular fundraising events of the year, benefitting the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and dozens of local LGBT charities and organizations. Crowds in excess of 10,000 are expected again for 2010 festival, especially as northerners seek refuge from the long, cold winter.

Tickets and passes are on sale for many of the parties, but organizers emphasize that the festival includes a wide variety of events beginning Wednesday, March 3 and continuing through March 8, including family, arts and spiritual programs. The cown jewel, of course, is Sunday’s Beach Party on 12th Street off Ocean Drive.
