A pair of transgender women were found dead in Dallas in the same week.
Carla Patricia Flores-Pavon and an unidentified black transgender woman died within four days of each other, according to NBC News. Dallas deputy police chief Thomas Castro said the two incidents are not believed to be connected to each other and that they are working to identify the second victim.
“Texas has the dubious distinction of leading the entire country in hate-related homicides of LGBTQ people in 2017, with seven Texans who were murdered," CEO of advocacy group Equality Texas Chuck Smith said to NBC News.
According to the Human Rights Council, last year was the deadliest ever recorded for transgender people, with 28 deaths.
