(EDGE) The disturbing trend of violence against transgender women continued over the weekend in New York City when a pair of trans women were attacked after leaving a gay bar in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn. The New York Daily News reports.
According to police, London Jade and Jasmine Infiniti reportedly left the Happyfun Hideaway near Bushwick Avenue around 1 a.m. Saturday after a night of partying. Outside the bar, they were accosted by three men and a woman who screamed epithets at them, calling them "faggots" and "transformers."
Eventually the altercation turned to violence when one of the aggressors took out a knife and slashed London in the leg. Jasmine's jaw ended up being fractured in the fracas.
Both women are working musicians. The NYDN reports that Jasmine has returned to her home in Miami.
"The worst part of this is how now this may affect my European tour and has already affected other gigs," Jasmine wrote on Facebook. "Ugh not looking forward to a wired shut jaw... bonus tho for a liquid diet and super cute pain killers! F--- transphobia, misogyny, and violent attitudes. I've had enough!"
Shortly after news of the attack broke online, a crowdfunding page was set up to assist the duo with their medical bills. The overnight outpouring of support has brought in over $32,000 in one day.
