On Trans Day of Visibility, President Joe Biden released a set of policies that will help support and protect trans youth.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump held a rally in Michigan April 2 where he slammed the Biden administration’s stance on trans youth, according to the NY Post.

“This week the Biden administration released guidance endorsing hormone therapy, puberty blockers and sex-changing surgeries for children and minor youth,” Trump said. “Can you imagine a child and then they grow up and they say ‘why the hell did you do that to me mom or dad or government?’”

Biden though isn’t backing away from supporting trans youth and their parents despite conservatives’ efforts to keep them from transitioning.

Biden also vowed to fight the anti-trans laws that states have been passing around the country.

  • Texas banned trans athletes from competing in sports.
  • Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a proclamation declaring the runner-up in a national swimming championship to be the “rightful winner” after trans athlete Lia Thomas won the event.
  • Some Idaho lawmakers have proposed sending parents to life in prison for providing gender-affirming care to their children.

The two fact sheets “Gender Affirming Care and Young People” and “Gender-Affirming Care is Trauma-Informed Care,” offer guidance for adolescents who might be struggling with their gender identities, which includes social and medical transition options.

“Medical and psychosocial gender-affirming healthcare practices have been demonstrated to yield lower rates of adverse mental health outcomes, build self-esteem, and improve overall quality of life for transgender and gender diverse youth,” the document by the Office of Population Affairs states.

The documents help parents understand what gender-affirming care means.

“Who the hell would have even believed that we’d be talking about this stuff?” Trump asked.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network document states that the practices are not child abuse, and are likely in response to a Texas law passed in February, the NY Post reported.

Biden pledged this support for the trans community in a video March 31, stating to parents “affirming your child’s identity is one of the most powerful things you can do to keep them safe and healthy. You’re so brave. You belong and we have your back.”

A Gallup survey published in February found that about 0.7% of Americans identify as trans, which makes up about 10 percent of the LGBT community.

“With their extremist sex and gender ideology the Democratic party is waging war on reality, war on science, war on children, war on women,” Trump said.

In the video address, Biden added “To everyone celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility, I want you to know that your president sees you [...] for who you are: made an image of God and deserving of dignity, respect and support. We know it’s hard when there are those out there who don’t see you, don’t respect you.”
