A middle schooler in Virginia was barred from both the boy’s and girl’s locker rooms during an active shooter drill because she’s transgender.
Her teachers told her to sit in the gym until the drill was over because they were unsure of which locker room she should’ve been in, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
A Facebook post from a local LGBTQ advocacy group, Equality Stafford, detailed what happened, and said concerned parents and teachers would meet to protest at a school board meeting.
“Let me be clear,” the Facebook post read, “During an event that prepares children to survive an attack by actual assailants, she was treated as if she was so much of a danger to peers that she was left exposed and vulnerable.”
Stafford Superintendent, Scott Kizner, will review protocols and procedures to ensure students are treated with respect, a Stafford spokeswoman told AJC.
