(EDGE) A California mayor with "a passion for helping youth" was arrested Thursday at a youth camp at Silver Lake in Amador County on numerous charges involving at least one male minor and a game of strip poker.

Anthony Silva, 41, mayor of Stockton, California was charged with eavesdropping or recording confidential communications, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, providing alcohol to a minor and cruelty to a child by endangering health, according to KCRA.

The arrest was the result of an FBI investigation stemming from September 2015 when clips of audio of several people participating in a strip poke game in Silva's bedroom at the youth camp was found on Silva's seized cell phone. One of the participants in the strip poker game was 16 years old.

According to CBS, during a statement made at a news conference on Friday, Silva maintained his innocence.

"First of all, everyone there was 18 years old," Silva said, flanked by his attorneys. "I never, ever endangered a child. Never. I never provided alcohol to anyone. I'm innocent and I appreciate your patience."

NewNowNext reports that the taping incident was hardly a one-off. In 2004, Silva was accused of secretly taping male teens in the bathroom of his apartment when he was a high school water polo coach back in 2004.

Adding to Silva's woes, it was also revealed last week that a gun used in a drive-by-shooting that killed a 13-year-old boy in Stockton, turned out to be registered to Silva. The murder took place in February, but Silva reported the firearm missing in March.

The irony of the accusations against Silva isn't missed by anyone who has followed the "family values" republican politician's career.

In March, 2015, Silva came under fire by LGBT leaders for appointing an anti-LGBT commissioner with a history of making homophobic posts on social media.

"My voting record will show that I have been supportive of all lifestyles," Silva claimed at the time. "I have never made a decision based on sexual preference."

According to KCRA, later that year in December, Silva got in hot water with LGBT leaders for holding Town Hall meetings at a church known for its anti-gay views. At that meeting he vowed to "turn the city over to God."

Silva posted $20,000 bail on Thursday.
