(EDGE) Peter Thiel, the billionaire cofounder of PayPal and vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, secretly tied the knot over the weekend, according to a report from Axios.
Thiel married his longtime partner Matt Danzeisen, a portfolio manager at Thiel Capital, in Vienna. Even the ceremony's guests were surprised they were attending a wedding. Axios reports attendees were under the impression they were celebrating Thiel's 50th birthday.
According to Silicon Beat, thee's "little known about" Danzeisen beyond his position.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Thiel was one of the few figures in Silicon Valley to offer his support for Trump, having reportedly donated $1.25 million to his campaign. There were also reports he was on Trump's shortlist to be appointed to the Supreme Court (that didn't pan out) and that he joined Trump's transition team.
Since Trump took office, Thiel has been less vocal of the president. In January, he told The New York Times he wasn't worried about the Trump administration rolling back equal rights for LGBTQ people.
"I think Trump is very good on gay rights," the businessman said at the time. "I don't think he will reverse anything. I would obviously be concerned if I thought otherwise."
He also said he wasn't worried about about Vice President Mike Pence's lengthy anti-LGBTQ history.
"You know, maybe I should be worried but I'm not that worried about it," he added. "I don't know. People know too many gay people. There are just all these ways I think stuff has just shifted."
