A former FDNY firefighter is suing the department over claims he faced discrimination because of his race and perceived sexuality.

Michael Troina said he had toilet paper and peanut butter rubbed on his car and was told to have sex with a stripper to prove he wasn’t a “faggot,” according to Gay Star News. His federal lawsuit claims he was later fired in December 2016 because he reported those and other incidents to the FDNY Equal Employment Opportunity office.

“At first I sloughed it off as ‘I’m the new guy.’ As it kept going on, it got worse,” Troina said to the New York Post.

Troina said the bullying began in November 2015 when he first joined the department. He said he was fired two weeks after he was told he could begin an investigation with the EEO office, according to the New York Post.

The FDNY said that Troina’s firing was due to a failed evaluation.

Troina is seeking an unspecified amount in damages in the lawsuit. He named the city of New York, FDNY, nine firefighters, three lieutenants, two chiefs and fire commissioner Daniel Nigro as defendants in the case.
