A man shot a same-sex couple visiting Minneapolis from Brooklyn and Philadelphia with a BB gun outside a popular gay club Thursday night, Minneapolis Fox affiliate KMSP-TV reports.

Wayne Steven Odergard, 43, started harassing customers of the Saloon gay bar around 10 p.m., making anti-gay comments to a same-sex couple holding hands, according to the bar's security guard Tyler Erickson.

After going on his anti-gay tirade, hurling slurs, Odergard then pulled out a CO2 powered BB gun.

"I ran after him and then it ended up he shot a different gay couple in the leg, with that gun and it went through his jeans and drew blood," Erickson told KMSP-TV.

Before Odergard could get away, Erikson caught him and called police.

"He told me multiple times that I'm going to go to hell and he's going to bring me with him," Erickson said. "He recited a biblical passage -- I think it's a Deuteronomy passage."

Erikson told the news station that the couple was from Brooklyn and Philadelphia and that "they both joked that they came to progressive Minneapolis and got shot for being gay."

The couple was not seriously hurt, however.

"Even if the guy was shot with the same CO2 powered bb gun in the face it would've gone right through his cheek," Erikson said.

Odergard was arrested and could be charged with second-degree assault and gun possession.
