MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has issued a second ruling blocking Alabama's gay marriage ban.
U.S. District Judge Callie V.S. Granade on Monday issued a preliminary injunction blocking Alabama attorney General Luther Strange and other state officials from enforcing the ban.
Granade ruled last week in another case that the laws were unconstitutional. In both instances, she put her ruling on hold for 14 days to give state officials time to appeal.
The latest ruling came out of a case brought by James Strawser and John Humphrey of Mobile. The couple applied for, but could not get, a marriage license in the state.
Strawser said he will require surgery but that Humphrey will be unable to help care, or make decisions, for him because he is not a legal spouse.
